About this blog

Hi everyone, I'm Sarah, and I'm a Saturday's Child, born Saturday February 27, 1960, at around 5:20 in the afternoon, GMT.

As you might remember from the old nursery rhyme, (see below) Saturday's child works hard for a living.  This has been true for me, but the hard work has always been infused with fun, friendships, humor, and important life lessons.  This blog, then, is going to be a compilation of writings about, or related to, the various jobs I've had in my life.  Short stories, semi-academic articles, possibly some limericks or poems if I really get creative!  They are intended to be funny, thought-provoking, or, preferably, both.

Sarah, July 2014

Mondays child is fair of face,
Tuesdays child is full of grace,
Wednesdays child is full of woe,
Thursdays child has far to go,
Fridays child is loving and giving,
Saturdays child works hard for a living,
And the child that is born on the Sabbath day
Is bonny and blithe, and good and gay.

So, to be fair, I would have preferred a different day, but I'm sure my mother didn't do it on purpose.  And it could have been worse; I could have been full of woe. That would have really been unfortunate.  As it is, I've had an eclectic career spanning four countries and five decades, starting with a before-school newspaper round at age 12.  Subsequent jobs have included dishwasher in a Swanage hotel, waitress and chambermaid in the Bavarian Alps, admissions officer at a Boston area hospital, lifeguard at a New Hampshire lake, medical transcriptionist in Orlando, Florida, music faculty secretary in Oxford, and English teacher in Alicante, Spain.  Now I'm back in Orlando, teaching English as a Second Language and Teacher Education at Valencia College.
